A fantastic trip to Britain

All classes of year 9 went on a fantastic trip to Great Britain, to Bexhill and Hastings in May this year. We started our trip in Gera on Sunday at 3 a.m. Our journey to the ferry took 11 hours and then we were 90 min. on the ferry to Dover. The White Cliffs of Dover was our first impression of Great Britain, fantastic! We started from Dover to Bexhill and Hastings to meet our host families.

All students were really excited to use the English language with real Britons. On the next day we were in London. At first we had a sight-seeing tour by bus or a trip by ship from Greenwich to Westminster with a lot of information about London and its sights. We could hear Big Ben at 12 o´clock. This was our first highlight on this day.

From Big Ben we went to London Eye and had a flight to see London from high above. Then we went to the Tower of London where we saw the Crown Jewels. On Tuesday we went by the Underground to Madame Tussaud's, this was very stressful but interesting too. After that we had a bit time to go shopping or to have some fish and chips in Covent Garden.

In the evening we watched the brilliant musical "Billy Elliot". That was one of our best events. The next day we walked along Beachy Head on the south coast of England, the white cliffs were really wonderful. In Brighton we could have a big shopping experience but the Royal Pavillion and the old town centre with the Lanes were intersting too.

The last day in Great Britain started in the Smuggler's Cave in Hastings, then we had some free time to buy souvenirs in Canterbury. At 6.30 p.m. we went by ferry to France and then we went back home. Living in British families, talking English and learning about their life was really exciting. We enjoyed our journey a lot and won´t forget this amazing time.
